Simple Strawberry Banana Smoothie

New York has been hot this week. I mean viciously, meanly hot. And when it's 93° out, I don't really feel like moving, never mind turning on a hot stove and making breakfast, despite my weekend tradition of treating myself to bacon and eggs. So when Saturday morning rolled around, I was pretty much at a big, sweaty loss.

Then I remembered how my mom used to make me mid-day smoothies to cool down in the summer when I still lived at home. Eureka! This creamy strawberry banana smoothie took just minutes to make and is pretty much the ideal way to still treat yoself without dying of heat exhaustion while frying bacon.

Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup of fresh strawberries
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup vanilla almond milk (or vanilla soy milk if you prefer)
1 cup of ice

Add the ingredients to your food processor or blender (I use the Ninja that I got in a Yankee Swap a few years ago) and blend until smooth. Makes about 3 servings.

Feel free to experiment with your own ingredients! This would be great with fresh blueberries or peaches. Add some protein powder if you're headed out for a bike ride or run. You can also replace frozen fruit with fresh fruit, but I would half the ice and double the fruit in this case!
