Amazing NYC Subway Photos from the 70's and 80's

Fun fact: Did you know that the NYC subway system wasn't fully air conditioned until 1983? It's rough to think about on days like today where the heat will creep to about 93° and feel like over 100°.

Speaking of subways, I was lucky enough to stumble over this amazing image set on Imgur. Inside are some incredible images from the subway in the 70's and 80's that give a bit of an idea what it might have been like on those cars without A/C. It's interesting to see how much the trains have changed (you never see graffiti to this extent on subway cars anymore) and the extent to which they have stayed the same (noteworthy New York fashion choices abound).

Also, if you're interested in reading more about the history and chronology of the MTA, I found this nifty timeline on their website that has even more fun facts of the transit system we love to hate. Stand clear of the closing doors, please.
